This collaborative round compares Canadian and U.S. approaches to same-day joint arthroplasty, focusing on patient selection, anesthesia techniques, care-team models, and perioperative workflows that support safe discharge and efficient care.
By the end of this collaborative session, participants will be able to:
- Compare protocols for patient selection, pre-operative optimization, and screening criteria to safely determine appropriate surgical locations (Hospital vs. Ambulatory Surgical Center) for same-day arthroplasty.
- Evaluate distinct multi-modal, regional anesthesia techniques and spinal anesthesia dosing strategies used across North America to optimize early ambulation and same-day arthroplasty.
- Compare and contrast various anesthesia care team configurations (i.e. Medical Learners, Anesthesia Assistants, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Anesthesiologists) and the subsequent impact on room turnover and workflow efficiency.
- Compare and Contrast various patient and operating room flow configurations with regards to workflow efficiency and patient length of stay (i.e. Block Room, 2 OR Model)
- Compare and evaluate personal practice against real-time peer audit data collected from North American colleagues. (Audience Poll)
