SUMMARY:Intraoperative management for major liver resection: An update

DESCRIPTION:Patients coming for liver resection are increasingly comorbid a
 nd having increasingly aggressive resections. The rate of mortality has de
 creased substantially\; however\, the rate of postoperative morbidity cont
 inues to be high. Perioperative blood conservation techniques are a critic
 al contributor to outcomes for patients having major liver resection. Rece
 iving a blood transfusion during the surgical hospitalization is associate
 d with poor outcomes. Recent large-scale randomized controlled trials have
  emerged regarding the use of intraoperative hypovolemic phlebotomy and an
 tifibrinolytic medications (tranexamic acid) providing key insight to mana
 ging these patients. This session will aim to discuss an evidence-based ap
 proach to intraoperative care for patients having major liver resection an
