DESCRIPTION:Tonsillectomy\, with or without adenoidectomy\, is one of the m
 ost commonly performed pediatric ambulatory surgical procedures. The two m
 ost common indications for tonsillectomy are recurrent throat infections a
 nd obstructive sleep-disordered breathing. The most frequent early complic
 ations after tonsillectomy are ventilatory compromise and hemorrhage. It i
 s important to acknowledge that many pediatric tonsillectomy patients may 
 not be cared for by fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologists or thos
 e with extensive pediatric experience.\nIn response to requests from its m
 embers\, the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA) developed a positio
 n statement concerning the safe perioperative care of pediatric patients u
 ndergoing tonsillectomy with and without adenoidectomy in free-standing am
 bulatory surgical facilities. \n\nThis is the first round of a collaborati
 ve series developed by CAS and SAMBA\, and it focuses on the SAMBA positio
